On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we give a very warm welcome to SMSTI-2016, Symposium on Multidisciplinary Science and Technology Innovation 2016 (融合科学と技術革新シンポジュウム), which will be held Oct. 22-23, 2016 at the University of Aizu, Aizu Wakamatsu, Japan.
Since the first forum in 2010, there is an increasing demand for continuing communication and discussion of the latest advancements in multidisciplinary domain.
SMSTI-2016 is devoted to promoting the pressing challenge from scientific research and technology development to business innovation in a vast range of disciplines such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, healthcare, robotics, and new business model for innovative services.
SMSTI-2016 will provide an excellent opportunity for academic researchers and business partners as well as policy makers to discuss state-of-the-art advancements, to understand the problems we are currently facing, to exchange innovative ideas, and to anticipate the bright future in relevant domains.
The Aizu region is well-known as a han (feudal clan) enthusiastic for education. The University of Aizu is the first and largest ICT-dedicated University in Japan, and celebrates its participation in ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest 2016 World Finals in Thailand together with University of Tokyo, Kyoto University and Osaka University from Japan. The University of Aizu ranks the first position in university start-up companies among public universities.
Aizu Wakamatsu is located in the central area of Japan and is blessed with a rich natural environment such as Mount Bandai and Lake Inawashiro, as well as a strong sense of history and numerous legacies of the samurai era such as Tsuruga-jo castle and Oyakuen herb garden. Autumn is a good season to enjoy splendid maple trees all over the region.
